3/8/2024 0 Comments Beautiful weather girls tumblrThis morning I awoke to the sound of pouring rain outside my window. Maybe I will talk about those when I learn more about them Reading some more of Arran Stibbe's work has introduced me to some interesting-sounding creative projects. It was quite cloudy in places and the sun was blinding me in others I didn't manage to see the moon today despite looking earlier in the day. I briefly went down to the dunes this evening to see the sea, but didn't have time to go to the water's edge - it was near enough high tide, but I had a bus to catch and it would be a bit of a walk to the beach from where I was standing. From the windows you can see the nature reserve which runs between there and the river I've been on walks there before in the summer, but sadly today I was busy and it was cold and getting dark. Our own word aurora comes from the French word for dawnīack to my own weather: I did some work in the library on the sea front today. In Gaelic they're called na fir-chlis which means the leaping, dancing men Brian Ó hEadhra and Fionnag NicChoinnich have a song with that name on their album Tuath: Songs of the Northlands. I'm not sure I'd like to live that close to the poles, but I'd like to see the northern lights some day. A tiktok user who lives in Svalbard says that the polar night has begun in the past few weeks. There's something cosy about the nights drawing in. It's quite pretty, but it means I get dazzled often These days the sun lies very close to the horizon. Hopefully it should keep me busy for a while The pattern is quite complex and has cabling which I've never done before, but I'm feeling up to the challenge. I've started knitting a new lace shawl pattern titled "wood nymph" which has a nice whimsical vibe. I need to do some Christmas shopping soon, and maybe get some decorations to put up in my flat I think then it will truly feel like winter. I expect it will be packed tomorrow night when they turn on the Christmas lights. When I went out to get lunch the town centre was very busy. I wasn't outside for very long today, but when I did it was fairly dry and it was cold but not freezing. I still haven't seen the moon yet since this month's new moon. It was an exceptionally clear night and I got a photo of Orion. The other night I took a break from my writing and went for a walk around my student accommodation block at three in the morning. Missed a few days because I was busy writing an assignment - ironically, it was the assignment about Arran Stibbe, which is who inspired this diary in the first place. Tomorrow I would like to talk about the cycles of nature with regards to the moon, the tide, the seasons etc. I'm going out to the winter wonderland tomorrow evening so with any luck I'll see it when it's full The moon was very visible in the sky this evening, and it will be full soon. Our universe is a fascinating place, and Tibees does a good job of conveying that, so I can only hope that a book she recommends does the same Toby (Tibees) mentioned it in one of her recent fourth dimension videos and I thought it sounded like something Dad might like. I bought a copy of Carlo Rovelli's new book White Holes to give to my dad for Christmas. The smells of all the gingerbread and mulled wine were lovely too The night was lovely with all of the fairy lights and I had a look around the Christmas market. I went for a walk through town this evening and it was very cold, but I have Raynaud's gloves now which helped. Already this is straying from being a daily thing.
